NC State Representative Rick Glazier will be honored as Legislator of the Year for 2008 by the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center (SR-AHEC) at an awards ceremony on Friday, June 20, 2008. The ceremony will be held at the Lyons Science Building on the campus of Fayetteville State University. The award will be presented by the President/CEO of SR-AHEC, Dr. Deborah Teasley.
According to SR-AHEC, “The Southern Regional AHEC Legislator of the Year Award is presented to a national and state legislator that has shown consistent support for reducing shortages in the health care workforce and improving quality and access to health care in our nine county region”.
Due to his continuing recovery from recent back surgery, Rep. Glazier will be unable to attend the ceremony. “I am honored to receive this award from such an outstanding organization, one that has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to improving the health and lives of patients in this area as well as helping to train and support our state’s outstanding health care providers and the providers of tomorrow. I regret I will be unable to attend the ceremony personally, but send my great appreciation for this prestigious honor to the fantastic staff at Southern Regional-AHEC”, Rep. Glazier said.
Southern Regional AHEC was chartered in 1974 as a nonprofit corporation, and serves as a medical facility for families in Cumberland County and surrounding areas and a health care education facility and resource center for health care students and professionals in a nine-county region, which includes Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson and Scotland counties.
Southern Regional AHEC is affiliated with Duke University Medical Center and is part of the NC AHEC Program, providing continuing education courses to over 6,000 health care professionals annually through Regional Education and Information Services.
